Learning from our own mistakes

Negative things:
  • The majority of students have read their assignements.
  • The format of the assignement was  sometimes not compatible with the teacher's computer.
  • The teacher didn't say the exact format of the assignement.
  • More time to prepare.
  • The students didn't read the entry in the blog with the specific vocabulary.

Positive things:

  • Students have worked in teams.
  • Students (and teacher) had breakfast!!!
  • Students received criticism positively.
  • Students liked speaking in public.

Mr Noisy summary (5)

I found a fifth summary in my junk mail box (????). The text contains many mistakes, which means it's a genuine text. However, those mistakes are TOO many: no subjects, no past tenses, no -s in the present simple... The content of the story is good though:

This is a person very noisy , when sheese he’s listened in the other town . When sleep , make more noisy than an elephants . Tomorrow he’s goes a shop and open and close the door of house very noisy and wopold the town and the birds . When he goes shop , wolking very noisy and speak very noisy , scared the town . When he go buy the bread and meat scared the sellers . Tomorrow go shop bread and meat very noisy , he noisy the sellers . Tomorrow go again and yell , the seller feign like they can’t hear mr.Noisy and then mr.noisy thought and ask for bread very quietly . Then the seller sell the bread and smile . Mr.Noisy go butcher’s and ask for meat quietly . The butcher sell some meat and mr.noisy go to home and very quietly and open and close the door quietly . The people of the town celebrate the silence .

Mr Noisy summary (4)

And finally, the fourth text:

Mr noisy is a very loud and outrageous. When he hears cries 100km. And as when a sneeze is heard in another city. When Mr.noisy sleeps in his house atop the mountain of snoring can be heard even in the valley. When the house slams the door and even the birds of Around it are trembling.
When Mr Noisy down to buy the people continued to make noise there he passed without any respect for people.
When he went to buy bread at the bakery always frightened the baker Mrs. Crumb bread and asked loudly. When I went to buy meat at the butcher Butcher Mr Bacon was the same.
One day it met on the street Mr. Bacon and Mrs. Crumb and started talking about the conduct of Mr Noisy and came up with an idea. They were pretending not to hear him and they did. When under Mr Noisy to buy at the store of Mrs. Crumb started screaming as usual but when you know that Mr Noisy low tone of voice and asked him quietly so if you hear it. When he went to the butchery of Mr. Bacon was just the same angry and started to cry seeing that Mr. Bacon was not listening under his voice.
So it was thanks to the idea of Ms. Crumb and Mr. Bacon Mr. Noisy learned to behave and be less noisy ... and they all lived happy and peaceful!

At first sight, the text looks OK, but if you pay closer attention, there are signs of computer translator (when I went to buy meat... ; one day it met on the street...; Mr Noisy down to buy...). There are very few (if any) sentences from the original story that I read to you in the classroom. That may explain the need to use computer translation.

Mr Noisy summary (3)

This is the third text that arrived in my e-mail address:

He is a red ball cartoons, he screams a lot of, and he hears everything milers. He sneezes very strong, and all the people listens it. He goes to sleep, and snores a lot of. When he gets up, he puts his watch in time. When he goes in to the shop to go buy, he knocks the door, it all tremble, his steps are very strong (pum, pum, pum,…).
Mr. Bacon and Mss. Crimb speak about Mr. Noisy, and they say that he talks very high and he doesn’t hear good. Mr. Noisy goes to shopping. Mss. Crimb is baker. Mr. Noisy goes to buy bread, he screams so much and she says that she doesn’t listen to Mr. Noisy. Then, Mr. Noisy goes to the Mr. Bacon’s shop, and Mr. Noisy asks screaming one pizza. (I Liked a pizza!!!), and he says that he doesn’t listen the he speaks low and he asks him please. He goes at home and when he arrives he stops to think and he opens the door carefully. Mr. Noisy finally speaks whispering.

The text is OK. There are mistakes, of course, and the tense is not the past simple, but at least the present tense is used grammatically most of the times. However, there is something that should not be there: Mr. Noisy asks for a PIECE Of meat, not for a PIZZA.

Mr Noisy summary (2)

This is the second summary. It's much shorter than the first one, but that is not really so relevant: I wanted a summary and summaries are short. However, there are some mistakes:

  1. history (study of civilisation) is not story (a tale, a narrative).
  2. the majority of verbs are not in the past form. We should remember that the past form is the most common tense in stories.
  3. Unfortunately, there are other mistakes. They could have been prevented if the author of this text had taken down more notes from the original story.
This is the text:

Mr. Nosy history speaks of how his life, One day when he wake up the town hears he. He decide go shopping. He lived in a mountain. When he walk down doing very much noise, when he came’s to the shop ask what he wanted, and screaming at each store until the owners decided to ignore him when he came again. Mr. Noisy the next day went shopping, he speaks very noisy but the owner does not hear, Mr. Noisy said again but normal ton, he learned the lesson that when I walked through the woods to silent. And from that time became very silence.

Mr Noisy summary (1)

This is the first composition that I received from you. It is well written and contains many of the original sentences from the story, which means that she was paying close attention and took down lots of notes!

Mr Noisy

Mr Noisy was a very noisy person.
The story started when Mr Noisy was sleeping in his bedroom on a top of a montain.
One day rang the alarm clock and he woke up, but the sound of the alarm clock was very special because the sound was the same that the fire alarm.
Mr Noisy decided that he was going to go shopping. Then Mr Noisy walked down the montain and he went to Baker's shop and he asked for one loaf, after that he came to the Butcher's shop and asked a peace of meat.
Afterwards Mrs Grump and Mr Baker run into street and they started to spoke about Mr Noisy, because he was always asked shouting and finally they agree on.
Followin day Mr Noisy was going to go shopping. First he went to Baker's shop and asked for one loaf, but Mr Baker didn't give this because Mr Noisy asked shouting. Second he went to Butcher's shop and did the same, so Mr Noisy went to his bed for sleep hungry.
The next day he did the same. First he went to Baker's shop and asked one loaf shouting and Mr Baker didn't give it, so he stopped and he thought, and other time Mr Noisy asked for a one loaf but he asked normally without shouting, suddenly Mr Baker gave one loaf. Second in the Butcher's shop did the same.
Finally Mr noisy realized that if he spoke normally would be happier.
